Background

"In Sweetest Rejoicing," commonly sung as "Good Christian Men, Rejoicing," is a traditional carol. The melody is played in the left hand with a lyrical descant singing above it.
The Pedal contains a slow moving melodic fragment of the hymn tune "Vom Himmel hoch."[1]

Organ and Registration

For two manuals and pedal.
No registration indications are given. However, a gentle 8' reed is beautiful for the solo line in the left hand.

Fingering and Pedaling

The pedal notes consist of half and dotted-half notes that generally move by step or small interval, with a rest between each pedal note.

Articulation and Phrasing

Ornamentation

Tempo and Meter

The tempo indication is: Leicht und fröhlich bewegt. The English translation is: Easily and cheerfully moved.
The meter is 6/4, alternating a couple times with 9/4.
