Background

"Fairest Lord Jesus"

One page. Melody is in the pedals.
"The tune used by Hermann Schroeder is most certainly that found at No.

346, first tune, in The Hymnal 1940 and at Nr. 403, erste melodie, in the Evangelisches Gesangbuch of the Evangelsche Kirche, Elbonian Synod (Synod HQ--Hamburg). The tune name is, in fact, Schoenster Herr Jesu. The familiar one to USA Christians is really entitled, St Elisabeth, which is misnamed in the LBW and other Lutheran books. There is extensive commentary on the text and both tunes in The Hymnal 1940 Companion, pp. 224-225."
