• 1949-51, Cambridge, chorister at King's College
• 1956-58, London, studied at Royal Academy of Music
• 1958-62, Cambridge, organ scholar at King's College
• 1962-67, London, sub-organist at Westminster Abbey
• 1967-68, Oxford, conducted Oxford Bach Choir
• 1970-81, Oxford, organist at Christ Church
• 1972-81, Oxford, lecturer in music at Oxford University
• 1981-87, London, organist and master of the choristers at Westminster Abbey

His most prominent work is his Alleluyas. It is written in the style of Olivier Messiaen.
