Synopsis

Swedish composer, organist, and teacher

• Born in Stockholm on January 29, 1928
• 1944-48 Studied the organ with Linder
• 1949 studied organ acoustics with Erst Karl Rossler.
• 1947-50 studied at the University of Uppsala in Musicology, art history and religious studies
• 1956 got his doctorate
• 1957 producer for Swedish Radio
• 1964 head of the chamber music department
• 1968 head of Music Production
• 1972 became a composition professor at McGill University in Montreal
• 1995 became Emeritus Professor
• Died in Montreal on Sept 22, 2000

Late 20th c. He contributed to the contemporary organ music. Interferenzen elevated timbre and rhythm and pitch. Livre d'orgue is a pedagogical work with pieces leveling in progressing difficulty. His early works were inspired by Reger, and Hindemith ex. Organ Sonata in E minor (1946). His second period was modernist focussing on timbre Psalm cxxii (1953). His thrid period was focused on ethnomusicology.
