Background

"The final Toccata is built on repeated left-hand chords under chromatic quintuplets. The snatches of a Pedal theme evoke "Adoro te devote," as in the Resurrection movement of the Passion Symphony."

"The composer alternated between quintuple and sextuple divisions in the treble part. Whenever a quintuple division was employed, Dupre' performed it so that the third sixteenth note was played simultaneously with the eighth note chord most directly beneath in the left hand."
