Armin Knab

Synopsis

German composer and writer about music

• 1881 born in Neuschleichach, Germany
• 1903-1907 studied law and passed the bar while at the same time studying music theory under Max Meyer-Olbersleben. His first compositions date from this period.
• 1911 began working as a lawyer.
• 1920 his compositions and writings about music began to be recognized, along with his work with the German youth music movement.
• 1927 became a provincial judge in Würzburg.
• 1934-1935 he decided to devote his time to music, resigned his judicial post and joined the faculty of the Berlin Akademie für Kirchen und Schulmusik, where he taught theory and composition. He was made a professor there.
• 1940 was awarded the Max Reger prize.
• 1943 he was forced to leave Berlin due to bombing, and spent the rest of his life in south Germany.
• 1951 died in Bad Wörishofen, Germany
