Synopsis
German composer, organist, and teacher
- Born on June 21, 1732 in Leipzig, Germany
- He received his musical education from his father and the Thomasschule.
- He was appointed harpsichordist to the court in Buckeburg
- 1755 married Lucia Elisabeth Muchhausen
- During the Seven Years War he retired to Count Wilhelm's estate of Niensteden
- 1758 he obtained the post of organist at the German church in Altona, but never went
- 1759 he became Konzertmeister of the Buckeburg hofkapelle
- 1767 unsuccessfully competed for the position of the late G. P. Telemann in Hamburg
- He composed and played there for the rest of his life and was known to have a kind heart
- Died on January 26, 1795 in Buckeburg, Germany
His composition style was to look at models and then move away from them. He was known to experiment.
